Celebrating Our Parish Father: A Day of Faith, Community, and Gratitude

On October 20, 2024, the parish of the Church of St. Nicholas and St. George gathered in celebration to honor a very special occasion: the birthday of our beloved parish father, as well as the 20th anniversary of his ordination. It was a day filled with joy, faith, and a deep sense of community as we came together to celebrate the man who has shepherded us for more than a decade with love, dedication, and spiritual guidance.

This Sunday was particularly meaningful, as it also coincided with the feast day of St. Pious Gerasim of Kefalonia, a figure revered for his humility and devotion. The gospel reading, taken from Luke 8:26-39, reminded us of Christ’s power to heal, focusing on the story of the demoniac from the land of the Gergesenes. As we reflected on the profound message of healing and redemption, it felt especially fitting to mark our father’s milestone, someone who has, over the years, been a constant source of spiritual healing for so many of us.

The parish was filled with a palpable sense of unity and joy. Parishioners from all walks of life gathered not only to celebrate the birthday but also to express their gratitude for two decades of unwavering service. The 20th anniversary of ordination is no small feat, and we are blessed to have a priest who has dedicated himself so fully to his faith and to our community.

Adding to the spirit of the day, the Ladies' Committee organized a bake sale to raise funds for our Sunday School children. The tables were adorned with a delicious variety of baked goods, lovingly prepared by parish members. From traditional cakes and cookies to savory treats, the bake sale was a beautiful testament to the generosity and collaborative spirit of our parishioners. The proceeds will help support the spiritual growth and education of our younger generation, ensuring that they continue to be nurtured in the faith.

As we reflect on this joyous day, words seem insufficient to express the depth of gratitude we feel. But thanks are, perhaps, unnecessary. It was clear from the smiles, laughter, and heartfelt conversations shared among us that the actions of the day spoke louder than words ever could. We are fortunate to belong to a parish where faith and community intertwine so seamlessly, and where love and support for one another are demonstrated in such meaningful ways.

May our parish father continue to be blessed with strength, health, and guidance as he leads us forward in faith. And may the spirit of togetherness we experienced today continue to inspire us as we journey together on our path of faith.

With gratitude,

A Parishioner of the Church of St. Nicholas and St. George
